About the CHERI Alliance
Building the ecosystem behind memory-safe computing.
The CHERI Alliance brings together industry, research, government, and open-source communities to accelerate the adoption of CHERI technology. As a neutral international non-profit organisation based in Cambridge, it helps connect the people, projects, and organisations building CHERI into real-world products and platforms.
The voice of CHERI
New technologies need more than technical innovation. They need a community, a shared direction, and a voice.
The Alliance serves as a collective voice for the CHERI ecosystem, helping communicate the benefits of memory-safe computing to industry, governments, standards bodies, researchers, and potential adopters.
The Alliance also helps create demand for CHERI by bringing together technology developers, suppliers, users, and adopters around a shared vision for more secure computing.
A bridge across the ecosystem
CHERI’s progress depends on collaboration across many communities. Researchers, implementers, product teams, government programmes, standards bodies, and open-source contributors all have different roles to play. The Alliance provides a neutral forum where those communities can align around practical adoption while retaining ownership of their own projects and priorities.
Members contribute expertise and requirements, share work where collaboration is useful, and learn from organisations solving related problems. Public resources and open projects also allow participation beyond formal membership.
What the Alliance does
The Alliance accelerates CHERI adoption by:
- connecting the ecosystem through events, workshops, and conferences
- coordinating technical collaboration through working groups
- supporting the development of shared software, guidance, standards and resources, and making them openly available wherever practical
- promoting alignment across instruction-set architectures and platforms
- providing education and outreach for technical and non-technical audiences
- operating the CHERI Enabled programme
- representing the interests of a growing commercial and open-source ecosystem
How the Alliance fits into the ecosystem
The Alliance supports collaboration, technical exchange, education, and adoption across the CHERI ecosystem. Product vendors, standards bodies, governments, and research organisations continue to own their own technologies, priorities, and decisions.

The Alliance structure
The CHERI Alliance is an independent, non-profit organisation, organised as a UK Community Interest Company (CIC). This means we are subject to the same accounting and reporting obligations as other companies, while also being regulated to ensure that our activities are carried out for the benefit of the wider community. In our case, the mission is to accelerate CHERI adoption by the industry. This structure also ensures that the Alliance cannot be acquired in the way a conventional company can.
